Course Overview
Our NERC CIP Overview Course presents a selection of key topics on the protection of critical infrastructure that is part of the Bulk Electric System (BES). Participants will learn how to apply North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Reliability Standards toward cyber and physical security of the North American BES.

It provides participants with a short history of the relationship between FERC and NERC and the underlying Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005). It also presents a
high-level review of each NERC CIP Reliability Standard Subject to Enforcement, their fundamental purpose, and measures (acceptable evidence) to demonstrate conformity with the Standards. Participants are presented with vital introductory cybersecurity concepts on threats, defense mechanisms, and safeguards that impact compliance with the Standards and contribute to the reliable
operation of the Bulk Power System.
